TEH WEBSITE IS UPDATED

WOOHOO . I'm currently playing Blood and Laurels presented in the newly unbound by legal constraints Versu system by Emily Short and love the writing.  I plan to review it after some more extensive play.  One of the bullet points is that a reader might only see ten percent of the total text in the game on each play-through.  There are achievements which seem to relate to the various twists in the story.  I'm not sure how much of a completionist I am, but we shall see. I am working on an IntroComp entry, which is the perfect comp for me since I never finish anything .  Your money is so safe if I win, Jacqueline!  I did a version of it in Inform which utilized Threaded Conversation and wasn't quite happy with the results, so this is in Inklewriter. I also bought Sorcery about a month ago, which is loads of fun.  Haven't completed it yet cause I'm stupid , but  I wish Inklewriter had a rudimentary sort of mapping feature available like that ...

Wow. I have not created a blog post in nearly half a year.

I don't think I have any kind of audience, and not like I would pander to them.  I would write a post when I want to write a post and wouldn't feel any need to justify...  Anyway, didn't blog a while. Part of that is normal invasion of Real Life stuff.  After that got settled I got involved writing a ShuffleComp entry.  I've wavered between writing my neglected epic in Twine or Inform.  Inform got an update, so since the planets have aligned, I need to get back in gear.

THE CRADLE OF EVE by Kitty Horrorshow

Image
You are part of a crew of four investigating a 32 year old derelict space ship. To say that standard space exploration horror tropes ensue is sort of accurate, but not in a bad way. It's a bit Event Horizon, but this is not a story about bloody alien/demonic rampage, although violence does occur.

The Axolotl Project by Samantha Vick

Image
The Axolotl Project is a choice-based narrative written in Twine.  You are a lowly intern researcher working as an animal handler on the moon where research into new drugs is being conducted.  Per usual in these types of stories, a sinister plot reveals itself, and you must untangle the threads and save yourself and humanity.

ECTOCOMP 2013! - CRATER CREEK, DEAD PAVANE FOR A PRINCESS, FAITHFUL COMPANION

CRATER CREEK by Angela Shah An inform game with no real cues what to do or what directions you can move in.  I have a nightstick and and ivory candle.  I walk past some houses that are described...the prose irks me.  It feels like every noun has an adjective and many have two.  It's like "The wood square house near the hard rock boulder is lit with bright yellow light and hung with green leafy leaves...."  I don't know if this is intentional to build up a poetic rhythm, but it annoys me how it trips along "the bump bumpy-dump goes tump tumpy-tump..."  I can't figure out what to do here. Dead Pavane for a Princess An Interactive Fiction by Emily Boegheim Aw...Claude Debussy is zombified?   Love this: >push piano You release the brakes on the piano's wheels and push it towards the door. It rolls easily - too easily - in fact it escapes you and crashes into the door with a nightmarish jangle. Yes, there are scratches on the...

EctoComp 2013 - BOOGLE!, CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS, THE HORRIBLE PYRAMID

BOOGLE! - a really fun little Twine game that actually gave me a slight chill.  I wish the concept had been taken further.  Right as I got the idea the game ended.  Nice job, Buster Hudson! CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS by Colin Sandel and Carolyn VanEseltine - I'm running around, being chased by my boyfriend who is angry at me for an unspecified reason.  This is a Twine game, and I get the feeling I'm supposed to use a deadly chemical in the lab to defeat him.  I keep getting killed.  Not badly implemented, seems like it's using a variable to detect a pursuer getting closer.  What an interesting idea!  I dig this duo making horror games.  I like horror games.  THE HORRIBLE PYRAMID by Ryan Veeder - This is a quick little Inform game, sort of INFIDEL-LITE.  Short as it is, it's very well implemented and I completed it quickly.  I love how the room descriptions change.

EctoComp 2013 - YOU ARE A BLOB

OH MY GOD I AM A BLOB. I'm liking the author's voice and tone, there's a whole fictional company with games like You Have to Put the Noun in the Other Noun , which is a series.
